The Globalization of Religion
Welcome to The Globalization of Religion Website!
Globalization started to emerge throughout the world from about the 1400's to the 1600's. The Spanish Empire was one of the leading explorers during the start of Globalization. They sent men like Christopher Columbus and Hernando Cortez to the New World to claim land for the Spanish as their colonies.
When the Europeans discovered the New World they exchanged all kinds of ideas and goods, one of them being religion. When the two different worlds met, an exchange in culture and beliefs undertook. The Catholic missionaries met polytheistic natives of the Caribbean, and proceeded to try to educate them about their view of religion in Europe. This meeting of two worlds did not only mean change for the New World, but the Europeans were also affected.
This site will show you the religious beliefs of the Old and New Worlds before their cultures collided. In addition we will also show the changes that ensued when they did.
